Shezad Dawood is exhibiting a unique coral sculpture titled Ghost Reef I as part of Thirty Six for Coral, an international exhibition and auction presented by Project Zero's initiative, The Coral Collective at the Grand Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat in the South of France.
The Coral Collective aims to support the work of the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR), the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) and The Academy for Coral.
The Coral Collective raises global awareness and secures essential funding for protection and restoration of one of the most critically endangered ecosystems on Earth.
The exhibition coincides with the Third UN Ocean Conference, which takes place in Nice this year.
Bidding for Ghost Reef I is live online until 22 June 2025.
Proceeds from the auction will directly support global efforts to protect and save coral reefs from extinction.
Shezad Dawood worked with AI technology to envision Ghost Reef, a reef system composed of twenty-one unique branching coral sculptures, of which the first is presented here. For this project, Dawood shines a light on the Acropora genus. Once the dominant form of coral throughout Florida and the Caribbean, Acropora has declined in most areas by as much as 90-95%.
