Hybrid Landscapes

Split across Frieze London and Frieze Masters, Shezad Dawood’s Hybrid Landscapes, commissioned by Deutsche Bank for their Wealth Management Lounges, presents a constellation of works connecting coastlines, oceans and outer space to ask pressing questions about our present and future ecosystems. The immersive blue spaces designed by Dawood and reminiscent of underwater worlds, feature signature neons, sculpture, Virtual Reality and new works on paper, including an Augmented Reality function that transports Dawood’s species from a two dimensional realm into the oceanic space of the lounge at Frieze London. Experienced as a whole, these works come together in Dawood’s multidisciplinary storytelling, itself a hybrid of fact and science fiction, to explore time, movement, the post-human, and the ways in which these themes shed light on the climate crisis, prompting us to collectively envision possible futures.
