Night in the Garden of Love, Inspired by & featuring Yusef Lateef exhibition is travelling to the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto where it opens on 10 November 2023. The exhibition is a dynamic conversation between Dawood and Lateef's artistic practices and philosophical approaches, inspiring visions of alternative futures through transformative creativity in a turbulent world.
This call-and-response between these gifted practitioners is reminiscent of exchanges in musical improvisation. Environmentalism is positioned as a search for solutions that take place in the community and through creativity. This is expanded through a VR environment, textile paintings, a specially created scent, algorithmically generated plants and a new autophysiopsychic musical score performed by Lateef's former collaborators and students.
Live performance, Night in the Garden, will premiere on the 10 November featuring Lateef's longterm collaborators Adam Rudolph, Ralph Miles Jones and Alexis Marcelo. Joined by Dawood, they will interpret a new textile banner through the autophysiopsychic method, blending sound and colour to lead you through the imagined garden in seven movements.
