We are thrilled to announce the completion of Shezad Dawood's Leviathan Cycle, a groundbreaking 10-part film project that began in May 2017 during the 57th Venice Biennale. Episodes 9 and 10 premiere as part of Skin of Dreams exhibition at Cultural Foundation, Abu Dhabi.

The penultimate Episode 9: Hye Yeon, Nemo & Ding Ling explores the ethical and philosophical complexities of using genetic engineering and artificial intelligence to preserve biodiversity within one of Earth's last fully managed environments in South Korea. As the seemingly human scientist Hye Yeon guides Nemo and Ding Ling through the institute's pathways, sweeping visual montages of nature, cellular biology, and Jeju's female divers portray the apocalypse as a startling, complex genesis of a new, networked existence where nature, humans and AI are indistinct in their tracing.

The final episode Leviathan Cycle, Episode 10: Encroachments - Ben, Tariq & Amina follows original protagonist Ben as he returns to a fractured homeland in the remnants of the Indus basin, a region now existing as a loose federation of city-states and outsiders dwelling on their fringes. By juxtaposing contemporary bio-hacking with ancient Sindhi folklore and 1,000-year-old Sufi shrines, the film presents a psychedelic, dream-like sequence that imagines humans physically and mythically transforming to merge with the intertidal and return to the Sea.

Over the years, Leviathan Cycle has traced speculative ecological futures, mapping the urgent crises and intersection of climate change, shifting borders, and marine environments. To date, the cycle's immense scale has been recognised through presentations at more than 20 international institutions and 5 international biennials, as well as film festivals and screening programmes. While the series now reaches its finale, its evolving narratives continue to invite viewers to speculate on our collective futures.
